Hello and welcome to Survival Gear Pack! Did you know that most people check out the “About Us” page of a website because they’re curious about the company? Or perhaps they’re curious about the guy who’s running the business…what he’s like, if he’s trustworthy, and if he knows his business.
With that in mind, I’ve created this page. So….here goes!
I’m Mark Featherstone, a tall, brown haired, rather average-looking bloke who enjoys good food, nice weather, and talking with people from all walks of life. My dog, MoMo, is a small Boston Terrier who not only is my constant companion, but creates the “us” in the title of this page, “About Us.”
I live and work in Gig Harbor, Washington…and before you snicker about my “nice weather’ comment in the previous paragraph, rest assured that, contrary to popular belief, it does NOT rain all the time in Washington.
Gig Harbor is a quaint, former fishing village which is Washington’s version of California’s Carmel-by-the-Sea. My shop is located right on the waterfront, so when I’m not packing or unpacking product, taking or shipping orders, or conversing with those who walk into my store, I’m gazing out the window at the beautiful harbor, complete with sailboats, fishing fleets, a beautiful view of Mt. Rainier, and tourists learning to kayak. On occasion, I can even watch the high school sculling team practice. Life is good.
But…sometimes, life changes from good to bad, often very quickly. A few years ago, I watched as record rains caused major flooding in a nearby community. I saw transportation…and the delivery of necessary goods…completely stopped as highways flooded. I carted soiled furniture to dumpsters, tore out soggy wall board, and comforted those whose homes were badly damaged. I saw, first hand, the trauma of those who had lost everything. It was an eye-opener.
I learned that only 3% of people in the United States are prepared for disaster. The more I studied, the more I knew I wanted to help people be prepared for whatever life may throw at them: disasters of a personal or national scope, earthquakes, fire or floods, tornados, hurricanes, individual job loss or national infrastructure breakdown. It was then that Survival Gear Pack was formed.
